Job Summary

A Diesel Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel-powered vehicles and equipment, including trucks, buses, construction machinery, generators, and agricultural equipment. The role requires strong mechanical skills, attention to detail, and adherence to safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance on diesel engines and related systems.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic faults.
  • Repair or replace defective engine components, transmissions, brakes, steering systems, and suspension parts.
  • Conduct inspections and preventative maintenance checks.
  • Use diagnostic tools and computerized testing equipment to identify issues.
  • Maintain accurate service and repair records.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company procedures.
  • Test vehicles and equipment after repairs to verify proper operation.
  • Order and manage spare parts and workshop materials when required.
  • Respond to breakdowns and emergency repair requests.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Trade certification or qualification in Diesel Mechanics.
  • Proven experience repairing and maintaining diesel engines and heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to read technical manuals and schematics.
  • Valid driver's license (commercial/heavy vehicle license preferred).
  • Experience with diagnostic software and tools.
